THREE GENERATIONS AND COUNTING...

OUR BEGINNINGS

Murphy Excavating was created in 1952 by Jim Murphy. The business had humble roots, beginning with just a two-ton dump truck and a Ford tractor with a loader. At that time, the company was known as Murphy Brothers. Over the next few years, Jim was joined by his brothers Stu, Dick, and Bob, as each young man finished school. This allowed the business to expand the scope of its work from primarily residential jobs to include commercial projects too.

Over the course of the 1960s, the volume of commercial projects grew and the company transformed into Murphy Excavating Corporation. Since this time, large and small businesses and residents of the Mohawk Valley have come to depend on us for all of their excavating needs.

WHO ARE WE TODAY?

Murphy Excavating is the oldest excavating firm in the Mohawk Valley area. We’re proud to have longstanding, strong relationships with a number of high profile clients, including Hamilton College, Colgate University, Munson Williams Proctor Institute, and many other well-regarded organizations. What began over five decades ago as a small neighborhood business has blossomed to become an industry leader, and the go-to excavating firm in this region. We currently employ three generations of family members, and many of our staffers have been with us for two decades.

WHAT SEPARATES OUR BUSINESS FROM OUR COMPETITORS?

We’re fully focused on staying up-to-date on technological changes, moving right alongside these advancements. In fact, we were one of the first businesses in the area to utilize laser beams to align sewer pipes. Unlike other companies, we embrace technology, using it to cut down on the number of man hours necessary to complete a job. This benefits you, as it saves us time and saves you money. For example, a cellar project that used to take two days now takes approximately five hours.
